We’re delighted to announce that TEG has been nominated for the prestigious Multimodal Tech Company of the Year award for the second consecutive year. Following a 2024 nomination for our work on improving logistics settlement, this year, our nomination recognises our work on advancing logistics sustainability in South-west England.
The award nomination stems from a pioneering TEG project launched in partnership with Western Gateway and Peninsula Transport to address one of the most significant logistics industry challenges: freight decarbonisation in South-west England.
The challenge
South-west England has a unique geographical profile. The region’s topography, combined with its characteristically dispersed population, makes moving freight efficiently challenging. Freight vehicles that arrive full are often forced to leave the region empty. Local hauliers consistently struggle to secure return load opportunities and, as a result, emissions per carried load can be eye-wateringly high.
The solution
Recognising the above challenge, in Jan 2024, TEG partnered with Western Gateway and Peninsula Transport to design and deploy a regional pilot project aimed at cutting empty mileage, reducing emissions, and empowering local logistics providers.
The pilot saw participating hauliers leverage TEG’s end-to-end logistics tech platform to access high-quality, return loads in real-time. Freight vehicles about to roam the region empty could use the TEG platform to locate a nearby load in need of immediate transportation, then collect the load, and finally deliver the load while driving to the vehicle’s end destination.
The technology saw capacity efficiencies rocket: In total, 425,675 miles were covered more efficiently through improved capacity utilisation.
The result demonstrates not only environmental progress but also the economic and operational advantages of the TEG platform. By connecting hauliers to new business and reducing wasteful mileage, the project – which continues – creates a win-win model that delivers value at every level.
Nomination a “motivator”
Multimodal’s recognition of the project is testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire TEG team, underscoring both our commitment to logistics innovation and the power of TEG’s end-to-end logistics tech platform.
As well as celebrating success, the award nomination is a motivator. TEG has always aimed to deliver new technologies that make logistics more efficient. It’s an aim we’ve pursued for 25 years and, awards aside, it’s an aim we’ll continue to pursue long into the future.
