The benefits of moving freight using electric vehicles

To be sure, in 2025, the share of road freight moved by electric vehicle (EV) remains small. Even so, there’s no denying that, today, having access to EVs has major benefits.

Should 3PLs invest in an EV fleet?

Given the benefits 3PLs unlock when they have access to EVs, is it time for 3PLs to shell out for an EV fleet? Not necessarily.

The TEG platform is the logistics collaboration platform. As a 3PL, the platform makes it easy for you to find, instantly onboard, and work with EV carriers… removing all the major collaboration barriers that hold 3PLs back.

Here’s how, as a 3PL, you can use the TEG platform to source EV capacity.

Using the TEG platform to source EV capacity

Option 1: Search for carriers with EVs

The number of carriers with access to EVs on the TEG platform is growing quickly. Once you’re logged into the platform, you can use search filters to find members with EV fleets.

According to member feedback and correct as of 9th Sept, carriers with access to EVs on the TEG platform include:

  • AA Xpress
  • AJK Transport Services
  • Choice Courier
  • CH Goods Transport
  • Echo Proteam
  • Fast UK Couriers
  • Fastrac Logistics
  • H&J Sameday Courier
  • HIVED
  • INCYP Logistics
  • Iorol Transport
  • KS Cargeau
  • MDJ Couriers
  • Michael Path Solutions
  • Mint Logistics
  • Ontime Express
  • OPB Logistics
  • PDH Sameday
  • Proheavens Cargo Services
  • RAB Courier
  • Ramsay Couriers
  • Same Day Goods
  • SOA Courier Enterprise
  • The Golden Olive Tree
  • Vigilant Watch

Let’s take HIVED as an example, whose EV capabilities shine.

“At HIVED, we operate the UK’s first fully electric parcel delivery network, including the middle mile, with electric vehicles as standard. This enables our partners to significantly reduce supply chain emissions while moving closer to their sustainability goals. With electric vans saving up to 260g of CO₂eq per kilometre, customers that partner with HIVED for deliveries unlock substantial carbon savings.”

– Luke Austin, Operations Project Manager, HIVED

To make use of HIVED’s EV capacity, you’d simply log into the platform then use the TEG directory to search for HIVED.

The platform lets you check HIVED’s compliance documentation instantly, so you know HIVED meet your stringent standards. From there, you can simply request to book a HIVED vehicle. (TEG ensures you own the relationship with your carriers. We never inhibit your collaboration.)

Better still, once you begin working with TEG members like HIVED, settling their invoices is easy.

Option 2: Use in-platform filters to find EV carriers (coming soon)

I mentioned in this article’s opening that offering EV capacity is becoming increasingly important. In response, we’re upgrading the TEG platform.

At present, you can use TEG’s in-platform filters to search for, for example, carriers with high security vehicles, or carriers who can carry chilled goods.

Soon, you’ll be able to use the same filters to find carriers with EVs. You’ll simply select your criteria from a drop-down menu and be shown all the carriers you can work with.

Of course, with TEG, you’re not restricted to working with just one member. You can work with as many as you like – increasing your company’s resilience.

Collaboration allows 3PLs to use ideal resources at ideal times, which comes with efficiency, resilience and sustainability benefits – for both 3PLs and dedicated road freight carriers.
